MTS is committed to the development of knowledge and goodness within children in an inclusive, nurturing, and academically inspiring environment. An MTS education, vigorous, creative, and process-driven, develops children who are well-prepared for their future while remaining young at heart. We infuse the academic, artistic, and athletic programs with the values of kindness, integrity, respect, & self-reliance so that all students can fully realize their human potential.

Dear MTS Community,

Adversity amplifies strength and weakness. During the 2020-2021 school year, the tremendous strength of Mount Tamalpais School shone through over and over again in the face of adversity amidst a global pandemic. When others closed their doors, we opened ours. Our campus remained a place of serious learning and serious joy. This success is our - shared - success.

This year’s Annual Report leads with a list of all of the professional community members, our teachers and staff. Their daily commitment to MTS students was the linchpin of our success. Without our brave teachers and detail-focused staff, the cacophonous joy of learning would not have been possible. Thank you to our professional community for embodying strength in the face of adversity.

The 2020-2021 school year required more resources than ever before. Additional staff, tents, air purifiers, and hundreds of single student desks are just a few of the new expenses required to run a school safely amidst a global pandemic. Just as our teachers saw a need to teach in person, you saw a need to support our school. While our teachers set records for in-person school days, you set records for Annual Fund support. Together we raised $967,000 of much-needed funds to support operations in a most unusual year. At our second virtual auction, we raised another $230,000, including resources for a more robust need-based financial assistance program.

With few opportunities to serve on campus, our parent volunteers found new ways to build community when distance was the norm. Class Parents ran Zoom craft parties and movie nights. When finally allowed, whole classes came together, seeing each other for the first time in nearly a year and welcoming new members of our community. Throughout last year, our Parent Association leaders supported the school looking for new ways to build community and further amplify our strength. Thank you!

Your support of MTS has left us in a phenomenal position of strength. Our enrollment has achieved a new high, our students are experiencing a deeper, more robust program, and our graduates are attending outstanding high schools. I look forward to working with all of you to build on this position of strength with initiatives for our program, campus, community, and teachers in the years ahead.

Dear MTS Community,

A warm welcome to our new families who are beginning their journey at Mount Tamalpais School. My family began our MTS journey 12 years ago, and as I reflect on these years, I am grateful for our family’s lifelong relationships that came through engaging and investing in the MTS community. 

MTS is defined by its community, which is one of our greatest strengths and a resource for our students, parents, and faculty.  As we transition from standing 6 feet apart to standing together, it’s exciting to see volunteers back on campus. We are grateful to all parents who are able to contribute time at the school; our program wouldn’t be the same without you. 

I encourage our families to find ways to contribute your talents to the school community, in any way that works for you. A hallmark of MTS is parent involvement in school activities. 

Finally, I want to applaud Andrew and his team for their leadership in managing through the pandemic and successfully balancing risks while making informed decisions to prioritize the health of the teachers and our community.  The energy and perseverance from Andrew and his team has been unparalleled. Our teachers, staff, and administrators are our heroes.

It has been a true honor to support MTS throughout the last 12 years and I look forward to supporting MTS and serving our community in the years to come as an Alumni parent.
